More lanes and less traffic jams with new terminal traffic plan

views 60

For passengers of Vnukovo International Airport, parking and transport problems are a thing of the past. Unloading the airport’s neighbouring territory has been relieved thanks to a project of improvement of transport accessibility of the railway station square.

The project has been implemented jointly with the Moscow city authorities. One of the key innovations is a new traffic scheme in front of the terminal with the number of lanes increased to seven. and a modernised parking system with an increased number of barriers: from 8 to 15 on entry and from 7 to 16 on exit. This made it possible to get rid of traffic jams at the airport area. This approach has doubled capacity and prevented the formation of traffic jams at the terminal.

The entry and exit process has also been optimised. The new barriers are faster than the previous ones, which is especially important during peak hours. Video surveillance system video ensures security and control of traffic, combined with licence plate recognition module for quick identification and PayPass card payment at the check-out counters.

In the new traffic control system, the choice of entry and exit options is much wider. Previously, the airport was mainly connected to the Kievskoye and Borovskoye highways, but it is now accessible from several other directions. It is also possible to enter the airport via 2nd and 3rd Reisovaya Streets and exit via Aeroflotskaya Street and 1st Reisovaya Street. As a result, the accessibility of the airport has improved.

With the annual increase in the number of flights and passenger traffic, there is also a growing need for new parking space. Therefore, Vnukovo International Airport is building a multilevel parking designed for 1,700 parking places. It will be operational in 2027.

Solutions to create comfortable conditions not only for drivers, but also for passengers were considered when designing the new system. Moving from public transport to the terminal entrance is now as quick and comfortable. And thanks to direct access to the subway, railway platforms and ground transport stops, Vnukovo International Airport operates as a modern transport and transfer hub.

Vnukovo International Airport is one of the largest air transportation hubs in Russia, handling about 200 thousand flights of Russian and foreign carriers every year. The airport’s route network covers the entire territory of Russia, as well as countries around the world. In 2019, Vnukovo International Airport broke a historical record and served more than 24 million passengers. The airport complex with a total area of about 300 thousand square meters has a capacity of up to 35 million passengers per year. Vnukovo International Airport, as the only one among the airports in Russia, has received the gratitude of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin for work achievements and high results in professional activities. In addition, Vnukovo Airport has been recognized as the best airport in the highest category «International Airport» of the national award «Air Gates of Russia» (part of the National Aviation Infrastructure Show, NAIS) for three years in a row.
