Director General's Page

Dear passengers, partners and colleagues,

Vnukovo International Airport is inaugurating its new official website www.vnukovo.ru which without any doubt is an important milestone in the Airport’s life. A comprehensive Internet source is an indispensable means of communication and community outreach for any dynamic high-tech company to posess these days.

Vnukovo International is the oldest civil aviation concern of the Moscow Air Transport Hub. The Airport has played a direct and active role in the great events of our nation’s history. It was here that numerous civil aviation experts of every stripe found and honed their mastery and saw it stand the test of time and practical experience of introducing new aircraft types into revenue service. The Il-12, Il-14, Il-18, Il-86, Tu-104, Tu-114, Tu-124, Tu-134, Tu-154 and Tu-204-300 passenger liners all made their first revenue flights from Vnukovo Airport.

The Airport today is one of the most dynamically developing air gateways in the Russian Federation – both in terms of its passenger growth and the rapidly developing ground infrastructure. From the moment of conveyance in November, 2003 of the controlling interest in the Airport from the federal ownership to the Government of Moscow a number of new high-tech facilities has sprung up on and around the Airport allowing it to radically improve the level of customer service offered to both the passengers and airlines using Vnukovo International as their base of operations in Moscow.

Fully at your service and disposal at the Airport these days are the modern International Terminal B with a jetway-equipped arrivals and departures concourse, multilevel car parks with parking space for a total of 700 cars. The significantly modernized public transport infrastructure makes commutes to and from the Airport a brief and enjoyable experience. Thanks to these innovations the Airport has been enjoying resurgent interest on the part of and popularity among both airlines and passengers.

It has to be said that the bulk of work on the Airport’s renovation is still ahead. The Moscow Government’s long-term Airport Modernization Plan intended to last until the year 2015 is aimed at transforming Vnukovo into a highly competitive air transport hub on the international scale. The expectation is that it will conform in every way to the international standards applicable in the field. Any incoming passenger from say Europe or the Americas  should be able to feel right at home at our Airport finding all the comforts, amenities and services they are accustomed to and then some.

The top-priority project under the Plan at the moment is the construction of the new International Terminal A. It will be a beauty of a structure hitherto unparalleled in Russia in terms of both size and groundbreaking design solutions. With the new terminal’s entry into service slated for 2008 the current International Terminal shall switch to handling domestic services.  Quite apart from the new passenger terminal project and to be built in the nearest future is a comfortable airport hotel, an all-new general aviation terminal cum MRO facility and several all-new mail & cargo terminals. A high-tech aircraft MRO base is to be set up, the airfield and its infrastructure shall undergo significant modernization and a number of projects adding new mass transit systems linking the Airport with the metropolis of Moscow will also be completed.

We have hope that with the help of our new website, you will be able not only to see and appreciate what has already been done at Vnukovo International but also to actively contribute through your comments and suggestions to our ultimate goal of making Vnukovo the best airport of our nation’s Capital.

With best regards and hope for cooperation,

Vasily Ye. Alexandrov
